San Diego has an amazing nightlife for you to enjoy whether you’re a local or just visiting. Many of the city’s best night spots can be found in the Gaslamp Quarter . This district is a 16.5 block chunk of San Diego with enough nightlife to compete with New Orleans French Quarter’s nightlife, but a little more civilized. You can easily start your day with a shopping expedition and end it with a new acquaintance on a dance floor.
There are an abundance of bars and pubs along side the nightclubs of the Gaslamp Quarter and the sheer number of Irish pubs in San Diego will have you wondering which country you are really in. Even the restaurants of this region get in on the nightlife turning into dance clubs and bars as soon as the kitchens close. Club hopping can be expensive if you don’t watch yourself and pace yourself on the nightlife you’re sampling as the Gaslamp has some hot spots with big-city cover charges waiting for you at the door, often averaging about 10 dollars.
Some of the pubs you will encounter as you wander the Gaslamp Quarter range from Hennessey’s Tavern, a California beach standard, to The Field, a Irish pub shipped piece by piece from Ireland herself. The most likely to be packed out of the selection of pubs you’ll find is Dublin Square, popular with both the locals and the tourists. If you’re not one for the Irish pub there are Mexican cantinas and even a Hooters available if it’s a sports bar with a name you recognized that draws you.
Looking for more of a place to dance or see and be seen? You won’t be left wanting. On Broadway is the most impressive and best dressed, jeans aren’t even permitted. Located in a converted Bank building on Fifth and Broadway you’re bound to find a scene that suits you here. The crowd runs from early 20′s and up and has everything from a martini bar and pool tables to a main dance floor that’s crowded but not crammed with people. There’s Tsunami Beach for those looking to see the bronze skinned blonds associated with California beaches or you can head to The Blue Tattoo for more of a hip-hop sound. 207 at the Hard Rock and Ivy are just a sample of the clubs you can find inside one of the five star hotel San Diego offers.
