Chicago is known across the nation for a lot of reasons and some of them are more charitable than others, however they all testify to the prominence of this city in American culture. Among the diverse outstanding aspects of this city is the fact that it is frequently recognized s one of the great theatre towns in this country. With prominent companies such as Steppenwolf being standard theatrical icons, there are other great and sometimes experimental companies that also make up the city’s scene. Seeing a play in the city is a frequent priority for the guests in one of the boutique hotels Chicago, USA .
Mary’s Attic, Oracle Theatre, The Black Ensemble Theatre , The Chopin, Second City and the Gift Theatre are a small list of names in a great theatre community. And these as well as numbers of others also represent the diversity of genres and types of theatres that are present in the city. The Gift Theatre is currently producing Suicide, Incorporated, which is an interesting take on corporate life and is also extremely interesting in structure.
The Chopin Theatre is one of the city’s premiere establishments that presents some of the top shows from the theatrical cannon as well as introduces great new premieres. Such is the case for its current production of Baal in its TUTA Theatre. This is world premiere performance of the play that has the same name and is loosely based on Bertolt Brecht’s version. One of the original aspects of the TUTA production is the integration of music to heighten the original story of Brecht. With a focus on the musicality of the words, this fusion of drama and music may not apply the same Epic structure of music to the stage that Brecht intended and it would be interesting to see what the company is doing with it. Of course Baal was written before Brecht’s Epic theatre and the famous Alienation technique were established, thought the original play did have some of these components.
