In many cities around the world, people are already planning their Oktoberfest celebrations. However, in New York city there is a restaurant in which one will think it is Oktoberfest, all year long. The Lederhosen is a German tavern right in the heart of the city. Many people who travel to New York repeatedly, for either business or for pleasure, plan their trips around making a stop in this popular spot. Lederhosen is the term used for the leather pants that are worn by the traditional German and Bavarian cultures. Many pairs of these pants are nailed to the walls and hang from the ceiling, giving this tiny tavern a very homey and cozy feel.
The front bar is always filled with locals, the regulars. Through on to the back dinning room, the space opens up and murals cover the walls. The entire area has an outdoor feel, as the murals depict the landscape scenes of the Alps. The picnic tables are covered with a skylight, giving those dining a veiw of the night sky should they decide to look up from their plates of bratwurst. Many other favorites of the Old World are served here as well, the sauerbraten, spaitzle, and schnitzel is among the best in the city.
The locals come for the inexpensive beer prices, and for the variety of hard to locate import beers. Many times when one leaves their best Manhattan hotel, and heads down the street to the Lederhosen, people can be heard singing from the restaurant, and once one enters the restaurant they may find it hard to not join in and sing too. People sing and drink beers, either from the bottle or from pitchers, and most will agree that when these times are being had in the pub, well the times just seem to fly by. Soon it will be time for Oktoberfest, but if one just simply can not wait, there is always the Lederhosen Tavern in Manhattan, USA.
