I am getting ready to book out five star hotel New York City for the week after Thanksgiving. It has been a tradition of ours for years. After a huge Thanksgiving dinner that we host for family and friends every year, two weeks of preparation. Several guests in the house for the Thanksgiving weekend and then it is time for us.
We really enjoy New York City at that time of year. Over Thanksgiving weekend the department stores and shops all along 5th Ave show there holiday windows. Macy’s windows always follow a theme that progresses from one window to the next all the way around the building. The innovation and creativity of these displays is amazing every year. Each year you think they can not top that, and they do. We usually set aside an entire day of nothing but window shopping, taking in all the displays. Another day we actually shop.
While in the city at this time we have to catch the Rockcats Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, take in a Broadway show or two and of course an evening at the Metropolitan Opera. It is a week packed with things to do, places to go and people to see. We have been taking this trip for many years now, more than a decade, and it never gets boring and is never the same old thing.
This year we will be taking a day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, each year we say we will get there and seem to never make it due to all the other things to do. This year we are going to make it and see the displays of Christmas trees and other portions of their collection. I am especially interested in seeing the Egyptian collections and I know my wife wants to see the Degas drawings and paintings.
All in all it is a trip we always look forward to year after year. Starting the holiday season with a house full for Thanksgiving and then a week for ourselves as we prepare for the remaining events of the season.
