Difficulties Getting to Lafayette, LA

October 28th, 2009

Lafayette, LA is such a cool place, we were there over the summer and had a really great time. It was funny trying to pull the trip together it seemed like there was something in our way, something that didn’t want us to go but we did. The week before going we got a big scare that my mother in law was really sick. Fortunately it turned out to be a minor problem and she is OK. We thought we were going to have to cancel the trip. Then the day before we were to leave my wife’s boss was trying to give her a project and said she needed to get it done right away. He knew she was leaving on vacation but insisted the project be done. Fortunately one of her co-workers took on the project to help her out. When we got home she found her self a new job and left him with about as much notice as he had given her for the project. The the morning we were leaving was a comedy of errors. From unexpected visitors, phone calls that wouldn’t end, locking the car keys in the trunk, the pet sitter canceling our at the last minute, that’s all I can remember quickly. Fortunately we prevailed above all the issues, got a new pet sitter and we were on the road. About two hours latter than we had planned, but no problem as we guaranteed out rooms for late arrival at hotels Lafayette that was one thing we did not have to worry about.

Once we got on the road everything went smoothly. The weather was nice and sunny, we missed the construction getting out of town and went smoothly on our way. Having gotten on the road a little latter than we wanted to we ended up arriving in Lafayette for a late dinner and got to our rooms for a night of sleep.

Our stay there was very interesting. Visiting antebellum mansions and museums. Eating the infamous Cajun cuisine and hanging in jazz and blues clubs until late into the night. We had a lot of fun and am sure glad we didn’t let any of those obstacles get in our way.
