2 Person Hot Tubs and the Finnish Christmas Sauna
September 21st, 2009
Hot tubs are always a welcome addition to any home. Our 2 person hot tubs are a very popular choice for the more intimate hot tub experience. You can have an inside hot tub, for maximum privacy and interior luxury, or you can have the hot tub in the yard so you can enjoy the fresh air as well. The feeling of soaking in hot water with the massage from the jets is a splendid experience that never gets old. There are terrific benefits to using the hot tub regularly, not the least of which is the stress relief and relaxation. Your days get shorter and sweeter when there is a lovely experience waiting at the end of it.
Hot tubs not only have enormous therapeutic value, aiding in both physical and emotional health, they are part of a long world tradition of bathing. In many cultures, there was always a special place for soaking in hot water, and this was considered to be part of a complex set of rituals for physical and spiritual cleanliness. In Finland, for instance, there have been traditions for using saunas that go back at least 1,000 years. The Finnish sauna is still a main feature in contemporary life. There are actually more saunas in Finland than cars.
One can probably imagine the benefits of hot water in extremely cold climates, and there are plenty of instances in other cultures where going from cold to hot and back again is practiced for good health. It does certainly aid in circulation. In Finland, this was especially popular at the end of the year, and there are stories about the Christmas sauna which evoke wonderfully fantastic scenes in the imagination. The family would partake in the sauna before the Christmas dinner as a way of removing all the spiritual residue from the year before, in preparation for the year to come. This is a practice that is also based in folk customs, where at the year’s end, unseen guests would use the water for their own celebrations. In some versions this gets changed to Christmas elves, which is another wonderful idea. You may not have elves in your sauna, but having a hot tub is entering into a brilliant tradition that’s recognized around the world.
